Andrea Wheeler is a west suburban Chicagoan by way of Milwaukee, WI who has dedicated more than 20 years to higher education, serving students and institutions across both the public and private sectors. She began her career in admissions before transitioning to financial aid, where she has spent the past 19 years specializing in default management, student advising, loan processing, and veterans' education benefits.
For the past 16 years, Andrea has served as a VA School Certifying Official (SCO), first as a Program Coordinator at Waubonsee Community College and currently as a Senior Analyst in Regulatory Affairs at DeVry University. In her current role, she focuses on the compliance and regulatory aspects of VA education benefits, including institutional approvals, reporting organizational changes, monitoring state and federal policy developments, and coordinating compliance surveys for 12 campuses across seven states.
A dedicated advocate for veterans and military-connected students, Andrea has been actively involved with AVECO since 2015. Throughout her tenure on the Board of Directors, she has served in several leadership positions, including Member-at-Large, Treasurer, Secretary, President and various committees. Her passion for professional development, collaboration, and service continues to drive her commitment to supporting school certifying officials and the students they serve.
Outside of her professional and volunteer work, Andrea enjoys spending time with her family and creating lasting memories with her husband and two sons. An avid reader and enthusiastic traveler, she is always planning her next adventure, with Disney destinations ranking among her favorite places to visit.
