Sarah Helmick

Sarah Helmick is the Associate Director of the Center for Adult and Veteran Services (CAVS) at Kent State University and an AVECO Board Representative At-Large.

 

Born and raised in Michigan, Sarah earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from Western Michigan University.  Her first job after undergrad was with ACT, working in the Chicago field office.  She spent five years traveling and consulting on college and university campuses all over the Midwest. Through those experiences, she quickly determined that higher education and working on a college campus was where she was meant to be.  Northeast Ohio became home after a spouse job transition and she took the opportunity to enroll in the Higher Education Administration graduate program at Kent State University, earning her M.Ed.  

 

Grad school started an 18+ year (and counting) career at Kent State University.  Sarah has worked as a Graduate Assistant with the Upward Bound programs, a Financial Aid Advisor one of the Kent State regional campuses, an Assistant Director in the Enrollment Management and Student Services office and now as an Associate Director in the CAVS office. 

 

Veteran services and benefits processing have been part of her job since the start of her post-graduate school career.  Sarah has served as an SCO for over 15 years and continues to appreciate the opportunity to serve military-connected students and families.  In her spare time, she can be found (and heard!) cheering her three boys on as they compete in a variety of sports.  She is an avid sports fan, baker and crafter.
