Kari was born and raised in Central New York before obtaining a bachelor's degree in History from Syracuse University. After graduating from Syracuse University, she enlisted and served 5 years on active duty in the Marine Corps. After completing her active-duty contract, Kari returned to Syracuse University as an Office Coordinator for University College before joining the Office of Veteran Success team as a School Certifying Official. Kari has a master’s degree in Human Services Counseling from Liberty University as well as a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University.

Kari currently still works in the Office of Veteran Success at Syracuse University. She helps veterans and military connected students through the process of using VA education benefits and as well as supporting them through their academic career and connecting them to resources that they may need.
